CRS Ethiopia is seeking qualified candidates for the Ethiopian Livelihoods and Resilience Program (ELRP), a five-year USAID Office for Food for Peace (FFP) Title II Development Food Assistance Project (DFAP). The ELRP will focus on building resilience to shocks, enhancing livelihoods and improving food security and nutrition for rural households vulnerable to food insecurity. ELRP will operate in Oromia Region as well as Dire Dawa Administrative Area.

In Ethiopia, CRS has a long and rich history of providing emergency relief and development assistance to the people of Ethiopia since 1958. At present, CRS/Ethiopia implements multiple projects through different partner organizations. CRS/Ethiopia has a highly diverse portfolio ranging from very large food-supported emergency response to cutting edge development programs. The current CRS/Ethiopia budget stands at $100 million with funding from the U.S. Government, UN agencies, private foundations, individual donors, and CRS private funds.

Economic Livelihoods Manager

The Economic Livelihoods Manager will provide strategic vision, management and technical expertise in leading the activities of one of the key purposes of the ELRP scope of work: ensuring households improve their sustainable economic well-being. The incumbent will establish and maintain positive and complementary working relationships across a wide range of contributing implementing partners and GoE stakeholders. The incumbent will be responsible for increasing quantity, quality, and competiveness of the income generating activities (IGAs), both off-farm and on-farm, and supporting access to sustainable livelihood pathways. The incumbent will employ a ‘climate smart’ approach to agro-enterprise, pursuing activities that promote soil regeneration, crop diversification and other practices that minimize land degradation. The incumbent will support rural businesses and livelihood groups to improve their products/services, processes, add new functions, and enter new market channels.

The incumbent will have a strong background in agricultural production, market assessments, rural market linkages, livelihood generation and capacity building.

Qualifications Requirements:

  • An advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a relevant field including international development, agriculture, business, marketing, labor market, climate adaptation and/or food security. An advanced degree can be substituted with an additional 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum 8 years demonstrated experience with USG or other similar development projects focused on livelihoods (preferably with experience related to on-farm, off-farm and employment livelihoods), resilience and vulnerable households, preferably Ethiopian with understanding of the Ethiopian context.
