Please join the Environmental Peacebuilding Association (EnPAx) for a webinar reviewing the inclusion of peace and conflict considerations the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) for the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku, Azerbaijan.  COP29 saw developments building on the COP28 CRRP Declaration.

On November 15, 2024, COP29 focused on the theme of "Peace, Relief, and Recovery," emphasizing the critical link between climate change and global peace. The thematic discussions addressed the dual challenges of climate vulnerability and conflict, proposing innovative solutions to foster collaboration, resilience, and sustainable development.

Key outcomes of the day included the Baku Hub Initiative, a significant step towards institutionalizing the intersection of climate action and peacebuilding. The Baku Hub aims to act as a global platform for integrating research, policy, and action to address climate-induced conflicts while fostering peace through collaboration and innovation. Another notable outcome was the proposal of the "COP Truce Appeal," modeled after the Olympic Truce, to highlight the importance of peace in climate action. This appeal aimed to remind nations of the interplay between conflict and climate change and emphasized the need for collective solutions to protect vulnerable populations. Additionally, the "Baku Initiative for Climate Finance, Investment, and Trade" (BICFIT) was introduced to promote investment green diversification, support policy development, and share expertise through dialogue.

The webinar roundtable will explore opportunities regarding how to further advance considerations of peace and conflict in climate finance and governance.
